HEY--CHECK OUT THE MY BLOG LINK

Welcome!

I am the author of the book series, Chronicles of the Host.

It's about the writings of an angel archiving the amazing biblical events beginning with the rebellion of Lucifer in heaven and ending at the Resurrection of Jesus. I'm currently on Book Five that goes into the Book of Acts. I have had some really cool emails that have been very encouraging. The books are available at Family Christian, Mardels, Borders, etc.

My hope is that we will come together in here to discuss, debate and otherwise chat about things natural and supernatural, theological and theoretical. I have an earned doctorate in theology and am a pastor at a great church located in Kansas. Yeh Kansas. But it's cool. I'm hoping to add a forum link here very soon.

The Series

The characters and events of the Chronicles of the Host series are largely taken from the Bible. As with any fiction, I created certain characters and artifacts, but tried as best I could to maintain the integrity of God’s word. Thus whatever I wrote, I felt I could defend with a biblical reference and/or basis.

The events in Book One largely take place in Heaven before Lucifer’s collapse. The Bible gives very little info about what happened up there. I took the passages from Isaiah and Ezekiel mainly to construct the conflict in Heaven and the pride that ultimately became the seed of rebellion and the source of all sin. The major points are along these lines:

There was an enormously powerful angel among others

He became enamored of himself and his own vision

He was able to convince a following that his way could succeed

Er....they lost.

They gambled that the only way back in the game was to gain

authority on earth thereby having a staging area to continue

the war, as well as to frustrate the Lord’s plans for humans...

They succeeded in tempting Adam and Eve and gained authority on earth!

BUT…the consequence of the fall brought with it a terrifying prophecy: that the Seed of the woman would one day avenge the Lord and crush the head of the serpent--an altogether terrifying prospect for Lucifer.

Thus the series focuses on Lucifer’s attempt to stop, delay, destroy or compromise this prophecy and prevent this dreaded Messiah from arriving. This is the premise for the remainder of the series with Lucifer at war with God’s plan. By Book 4 he determines that with the Seed now arrived in Bethlehem, he must take him on personally

That’s a nutshell of the series. There are many characters and places involved. In the case of earthly gods (Canaanite, Egyptian, etc.) I used the actual names of the local deities that these people worshipped—demons in disguise really. I had lots of fun with the Exodus conflict between Moses and Pharoah and the gods of Egypt being humbled one by one. I mean think about it--that's what religion void of the Living God becomes:

a sham playground for deceiving spirits and hollow hearts.

So... click on the link called "The CAST" and you'll be introduced to most of the players in the series..

As far as special powers—I also think in terms of influence, intellect and supernatural abilities that come into play on earth. To angels it’s all hocus-pocus, but to humans it is “magic” or conjured power or godlike behavior—i.e. the deception that ensnares their hearts and minds.

This is the reason God's truth is so important in our live!

The enemy seeks to throw up a smokescreen wherever possible.

So, to start with...

Here is a sketch of Lucifer that a friend of mine in California did. In the series I made him an elegant creature who slowly descends into his prideful madness. The Bible says he was the most beautiful creature in heaven--"perfect in all his ways". He was exalted, had rank, privileged access to some of the holiest sites in heaven. But that wasn't enough and as a result he ruined himself. Sounds familiar huh? Sometimes we can do the same thing if we are not careful. I think it's OK to want to succeed and even to strive for it. But when our motivations get misdirected and self-focused, we can steer into a real disaster.

I love the fact that God sees the potential in us in spite of our flaws.. If he didn't I suppose we would all have been finished a long time ago! But God sees something in you that you don't even see--he sees the potential for greatness inside of you because he put it there. He sees the plans he has laid out for you and wants to get you to execute them. He sees the desires of your heart and wants to make them a reality. The price? Delight yourself in God and the things of God and He promises to give you the things your heart desires. And you know what? If we are really delighting in God, then the things we want will be no trouble at all!

Another character is named Kara...

He's another one of the characters from the Chronicles of the Host series--and another rendering by a friend of mine. It depicts one of the bad-guy angels named Kara. As you can see he's suave, sharp-looking and very G.Q. He's also quite ambitious, proud, and opportunistic and one of Lucifer's chief aides.

Though not well-liked among his peers, he commands their respect because of his network of spies that get the goods on threats both humans and otherwise. One friend told me he reminded him of an up-and-coming corporate lawyer or an aide to some crooked senator. What do you think?

I hope to have other sketches of some of the  very colorful characters in the series. I have some descriptions of these angels--good and bad--elsewhere on this site. I would love to see some of you artists out there take a crack at some of these angels. You draw 'em, I'll publish 'em!

Write me with your ideas, poems, prayer requests, etc., and I'll do my best to post them! For now email me at drdbs@aol.com   God Bless!
