Angels in Chronicles of the Host

...are created to serve God and therefore are given power by him. They exercise enormous power on earth, where they can manipulate the elements, influence men, and interact with the physical world as needed. Obviously, the wicked angels use these superior powers to manipulate for evil, causing pain, disease, temptation, etc.

There are instances in the Bible where angels demonstrate titanic supernatural powers, such as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the defeat of armies and such. We also know that in the time of Christ's return angels will play an important, though limited role.

NOTE: Angels, while clever and supernatural ARE limited in their abilities. Wicked angels are especially good at smoke and mirrors manifestations that cause them to appear much more powerful than they really are. But here is the great news: they are on a leash and only allowed to go as far as God lets them. In the series this often makes them cry foul. Their greatest advantage at times is the weakness of humans and the human tendency to give in to carnal impulses. Thus the battle is waged with humans as the chess pieces.

It is human pride that causes them to flourish.

It is human faith and prayers that really can ruin their day.

For more informaiton on angels, check out the Academy of the Host. I'm sure Pellecus is anxious to teach you on the subject. In the meantime, take a look at the angels from the series. Oh and--I have been asked why all my angels are masculine. The reason? Because they are all masculin in the Bible. Had the Bible ever depicted a feminine angel I would have had some of those. But every angel is described as a man dressed in a white cloak, etc. OK--on to the cast...

Classes of Angels

Warriorsthe enforcers in the kingdom. These are the angels of/for warfare who are ranked and ordered in specific legions. They carry swords which signify their rank.

Wisdom—these angels are the scribes and teachers of heaven. Their main hub is the Academy of the Host, where dispensation of knowledge takes place.

Worship—part of the celebratory rank of angels—they are involved in worship, holy occasions and all ceremonies near the throne of God.

The Zoa—the four  strange creatures nearest the holiness of God. They are human/animal in appearance with faces of a man, eagle, lion and a calf. They also have hundreds of eyes. They represent God’s voice to the angels and are seated nearest the Most Holy Presence in the Throne Room of God.

The Elders—there are 24 governing angels who sit in counsel. They are led by a Chief Elder and are comprised of a mix of warrior, worship and wisdom angels. Some turn with Lucifer, but most remain loyal to God. Chief among the disloyal contingent among them is Kara, who is working on Lucifer’s behalf to have him Lucifer named steward of the newly created Earth.

The Bad Boys

LUCIFER aka The Anointed Cherub, Morning Star, Satan

Created by the Lord to be specially connected with the holiness of heaven. He is among other things, the Chief of Worship and is privileged in rank and in access to the sacred places in heaven—the Holy Mountain, the Place of the Fiery Stones, etc. His pride gets the better of him and upon discovering that the newly created earth is to be turned over to a mere human, he executes his plan. Upon losing in heaven, he continues the war on earth with the angels who threw in with him.

Special Powers/Influences

Supreme leader of the opposition to God—“Army of Liberation”

Keen, intuitive intellect

Charismatic ability to sway creatures

Incredible beauty—the guy’s a stud

Imposing authority

Special anointing for creating worshipful music and sensing God’s Presence

Gives off a purplish aura when he is angry

On earth (like all fallen angels) he can manipulate elements, wreak havoc with the weather, cause disasters, influence humans for wickedness, etc. He commands legions of demons who specialize in sickness, religion, fear, suicide, murder, etc., and works his plans through them.

Lucifer’s Chief Aides

Pellecus

Disgraced former teacher in the Academy of the Host. He becomes the philosophical impetus behind Lucifer’s movement and adds a credible, doctrinal basis for it to the more skeptical angels. He especially espouses the future theology by encouraging Lucifer’s writings in the Prophecies of the Morning Star. He has been promised to head up the new Academy of the Host on earth once victory is assured.

Rugio

Lucifer’s commander. He represents the brutal, enforcer side of the rebellion. He is completely loyal to Lucifer and is more like a trained attack dog than an angel. His archrival is Michael, of whom he is bitterly jealous. He has been promised an archangel title by Lucifer when this is all over and he is spoiling for a showdown with Michael.

Kara

He’s suave, sharp-looking and very G.Q. He's also quite petty, ambitious, proud and opportunistic and one of Lucifer's chief aides. Though not well-liked among his peers, he commands their respect because of his network of spies that get the goods on threats both humans and otherwise. He lives for Lucifer’s approval which he rarely gets.

Serus

Lucifer’s personal servant/aide. He becomes the point of conscience in the first book as he wrestle with his desire to be significant vs the reality of what he sees Lucifer doing. He appears throughout the series after a dramatic event takes place at the end Book 1.

Lucifer's  Council of Worship

Throughout the series Lucifer meets regularly with his advisory council—the angels who are tasked with executing the war. In Heaven they are the Council of Worship—later the Council for War or Liberation. Some of these appear throughout the series, others come and go. But here is a listing of the Council as appears in Book One:

Warrior Angels on the Cuuncil

Rugio—Captain of the Fiery Host

Vel—Commander of the Legion of the Son

Nathan—Captain of the Legion of the Lord’s Holiness

Prian—Angel of the Watch

Worship Angels on the Council

Sangius—Minister of the Holy Flame—He later leaves Lucifer and becomes one of Michael’s aides in their investigation of Lucifer’s activities in Heaven.

Fineo—Minsiter of the Incense

Drachon—Keeper of the Door

Sar—Singer of Praises to the Most High; later assigned to Goshen.

Wisdom Angels on the Council

Tinius—Recorder of the Holy Archives—Appears throughout the series as the irritating naysayer, always doubting and questioning Lucifer’s decisions.

Pellecus—Esteemed Teacher

Lenaes—Angel of Light

Belor—Angel of Light

Berenius—student at the Academy who becomes one of Kara’s closest assistants throughout the series. He is a snotty fellow who, because of his close association with Kara, is also respected. He also specializes in murder and suicide among humans. He eventually takes Sangius’ place on Lucifer’s council.

Minor Wicked Angel Characters

Some of these appear thoughout the series, others only appear in certain historical settings. For example—Soddom and Gomorrah, Jericho, etc. as lords over those cities. Also in the Exodus period there are “gods” of Egypt who come and go with the events.

And some of these are characters who are referred to or only scantly involved in the story, but who lend the feeling of numbers and support for Lucifer’s ambitions. I mention them only to demonstrate that we can create/define as many character as needed for a game, book, trading card, etc.

Sep—an angel

Greka—an angel

Deter—an angel

Plinius (an elder who presents Kara’s motion to have Lucifer named steward)

Milicom—demon prince over Sodom

Darian—an angel sent to murder Hagar

Sobek—the crocodile-like demon god of the Nile. Other gods of Egypt are mentioned and could be a cool tie-in as the plagues humble the pantheon of Egypt one by one.

Kanulaide to Sar

Khasis—demon prince over Jericho

Jhara—aide to Khasis

Shawa—an angel assigned by Kara to Samson

Aziel—a demon sent to torment King Saul

The Good Guys

The Angel of the Lord

Makes appearances from time to time as the Bible story dictates. This character is actually an appearance of the Lord Himself in the form of an angel. It is the Angel of the Lord who appears to Hagar; it is the same Person who appears to Moses in the burning bush. He makes other appearances as well at critical times.

The Arch-Angels

These are the two known archangels. I don’t create Lucifer an archangel because the Bible really isn’t clear on that. Gabriel is an assumption although a good one because he exhibits “arch angel type” behavior. It is Lucifer’s jealousy of Gabriel’s appointment to archangel that gets under his skin at the beginning of Book One.

Michaelthe fiercely loyal, Braveheart-ish Commander of the Host. He is dedicated to upholding the Lord’s law in heaven and earth and is the first one to become suspicious of Lucifer’s activities. His sword is legend and whenever he is about to make a point with it, it gives off a bluish aura. Michael is greatly respected for his strength by all of the angels. Just his presence at one point quelled an outbreak between Lucifer’s angels and the others at the debate in the Academy of the Host.

Gabrielrecently archangel, he is also given the honor of being the Messenger of the Kingdom. He has a humble and humorous side—sometimes even playful—and is willing to give Lucifer the benefit of the doubt until more proof is uncovered. He makes frequent appearances to humans on the Lord’s business.

Other Holy Angels

Crispin—a legend among angels as the foremost teacher at the Academy of the Host. He is the caretaker of the sacred teachings of the Most High and represents the traditional and God-honoring wing of the Academy. His chief rival is Pellecus, a former teacher whose doctrine became suspicious. Crispin, a wisdom angel, is humorous and satirical, and at times a bit petulant. He asks all the right questions and keeps the investigation of Lucifer’s activities in heaven centered and sensible.

Sangius—a one-time disciple of Lucifer’s, Sangius comes over to Michael’s side to help unravel what Lucifer’s plans are. He is a wealth of information on the mind of Lucifer’s inner circle.

Octrion—a rather thick-headed angel who assists Lucifer in the ministry of worship but is not brought into Lucifer’s confidence. He is strictly a by-the-book sort who tends to a gossipy side that Lucifer finds at times useful.

Darus—a gatekeeper who guards the Heavenly Gate in the cosmos.

Archias—an apprentice angel to Serus

Quinron and Tassius—angels assigned to Noah

Romus—an aide to Michael during the Exodus time

Joel—a disciple of Crispin

Alyon—an aide to Serus in Egypt

Jakkar—an angel who guards Abraham’s camp

Bakka—an angel assigned to Daniel, the shepherd

Crillus—a warrior scout

Dheer—an angel assigned to assist Samson

Romus—an angel in Bethlehem

Millas—a wisdom angel

Alamar—an aide to Michael

Rufus—a wisdom angel

The Humans—The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The humans come into the series after the Fall of Lucifer and become the chess pieces in the struggle between light and darkness. They are the focus of Lucifer’s rage upon hearing the prophecy that one day the seed of a woman would crush his head. Over time, some of these humans begin calling upon God and even exercising faith, mainly through prayer, that becomes a huge hindrance to Lucifer’s plans to stop, delay, compromise or destroy the potential Messiah.  Humans can be manipulated and influenced, and in some cases taken possession of by Lucifer’s angels. They can also be interacted with by the Holy Angels as God orders.
